We announce that the PhotoTalk will take place on September 4, at 6:30 p.m. On this occasion, the session will be presented by Eunice Miranda Tapia, professor in the area of Art History at the University of Seville and expert in photography and contemporary creation. The presentation is titled “Other ways to influence the management of photographic heritage: the case of the Fotobservatorio Fotográfico Mexicano.”

During the session, Eunice Miranda will tell us about the Fotobservatorio del Patrimonio Fotográfico Mexicano, founded in 2016 and directed by Fernando Osorio. This initiative brings together experts from Mexico and other countries for a long-term conservation and study effort of photographic heritage. This includes training, cataloging and standards setting, to offer an alternative perspective on photographic heritage management that goes beyond public institutional support.

Around 2016, the Photobservatory of Mexican Photographic Heritage was founded, formed by an important group of specialists in the photographic image of Mexico and several countries, a project led by photography conservation specialist Fernando Osorio. The creation of this autonomous body has allowed the institutional project of the Image Center to be a series of important actions for the conservation and study of photographic heritage, training programs in preventive conservation, cataloguing, training in the field of directed conservation to all people in charge of a collection, a list of current photographic collections or the creation of the first Mexican Cataloging Standard.

This space seeks to point out, from a very practical perspective, the important actions generated by this organization as well as the challenges and solutions that they have been providing in their
years of his exercise, with the aim of pointing out another way of managing photographic heritage beyond the public institutional order.
